Prototypes. They give us glimpses of what the future holds, and once their time has passed, they stand as a reminder of a company's efforts to direct the future. The prototypes shown in the sidebars listed below were featured at this year's Corvettes at Carlisle, and we thank Carlisle Events and Chevrolet for allowing Corvette Fever the opportunity to get some photos of these historical and influential cars.
On the subject of looking forward, GM is still building prototype cars to test new ideas and their durability. Their influence on the Corvette's future will depend on how these ideas perform and the feasibility of using them in a production vehicle. This is what makes these cars so valuable. Without a platform to test new products, we wouldn't know the limitations of the parts being tested, or the limits to which man will go in determining the future.
