1953 - 1962 Corvette

The first generation of the Chevrolet Corvette started in 1953 and is commonly known as solid-axle. Originally sold for $3,498, the first Corvette would cost about $26,903 in today. After a few shaky years the car gained traction due in part to a V8 engine, a 3 speed manual transmission, and a rivalry with Ford’s Thunderbird. The C1 ended its run with the 1962 Corvette but today these famed Chevy Corvettes are some of the most sought-after classic cars anywhere.
