He ordered this Polo Green ’96 LT4 six-speed convertible from Kerbeck Chevrolet (a mere four-hour drive away), took delivery on April 9, 1996, packed his bags, and headed for sunny Florida. Unfortunately, the Southern clime couldn’t provide absolute nirvana. Peter experienced some frustrations with his new Corvette, but happily, he says Chevrolet solved all his problems in an exemplary fashion.

He was enjoying a stress-free ride on a summer’s day in his new locale. After a brief stop at a store along his route, he returned to his Corvette to continue the therapy session, and discovered that the key wouldn’t go into the ignition! GM’s free 24-hour Roadside Assistance provided a flatbed lift to a local dealership, where he had a hassle-free replacement ignition installed in the steering column.

But there was something else. The nagging noise in the transmission that had stumped his New York dealer continued unabated. Two other dealers in Florida had a go at it, but they were stumped, too. In the end, Chevrolet agreed that the problem was unacceptable and put a new, not rebuilt, transmission into the 1,800-mile Corvette. How’s that for customer service?

It’s been a few years, and Peter’s Corvette is still purring like a kitten. He’s grateful for the excellent service he received while his Corvette was under warranty, and says he’s delighted to be living within shouting distance of the Corvette Clinic in Sanford. This happily transplanted Yankee is confident he’ll get plenty more years of stress-free driving. And he wouldn’t trade his ’96, or the opportunity to drive it year-round, for anything in the world.
