They're Back Here
SLS twin turbochargers are mounted where OEM C6 mufflers once were. The "whistling" sound they make draws a crowd, especially when the engine revs higher.
But wait...there's more. Steve Ray of Airbrush Inc. designed and airbrushed the special "Smoke" graphics on each side, as well as on the hood and between the headlights. He also added a custom Armor All logo on the hood's underside, along with Stewart's name and car No. 20, plus Stacey's name and the GearZ logo.
Did you ever have a Corvette blast past you at very high speed, and all you heard was a loud whoosh? Well, that sound was from the twin STS turbochargers, especially as the engine's revs go higher. "This thing sounds so unique because the turbos are right in the back where the mufflers are on the stock C6, right at the tailpipe," Stacey says. "So there's a pronounced 'whistle' sound. Generally, when a turbo is up under the hood, you might hear a little bit of whine, but this is a pronounced, almost 'slide-whistle' kind of Formula One sound." He adds that you don't hear it as much inside the car as you do outside. "If you were following the car, you'd hear it-the sound is almost like a gas turbine engine. Then, when you step down on it, it's like, 'Whoosh! I'm outta here!'

Smokin' Interior
Smoke-grey leather is not only a good choice; it's also an OEM '08 C6 interior selection.
Stacey has nothing but good things to say about the STS twin-turbo system, which he first saw at the SEMA show a few years back. "Everybody was pooh-poohing it," he recalls. "There's going to be lag, and on and on. Those STS guys had four or five cars there fitted with those turbos, and they were saying, 'Instead of thinking that way, just drive the car!' When they did, everybody got out of the car afterward and said, 'Holy cow!'"
Who's garage did this car end up in? David Lupo's, in Greensboro, North Caro-lina-a devoted NASCAR fan who loves "Ol' Smoke."
