Bob Hook Chevrolet took about six hours to add the stripes, screens, spoilers and other ZHZ equipment to the convertibles, while the coupes' wheel swap added four more hours per car of shop time
Once the stripes, screens and polished wheels were on, the Corvette ZHZs (500 coupes in 2008, and 350 convertibles this year) went back to Bowling Green, and from there they were shipped to Hertz. The coupes are available to rent right now, and the drop-tops soon will be. "Keep your eyes out for the convertible version," says Hertz's Paula Rivera. They should be available in the October-November time frame." Rivera adds that each Hertz location sets the rates for their Fun Collection cars. "It's safe to say you're looking at between $100-200/day," she says of what you can expect to pay for a ZHZ. So, adds Rivera, it's best to contact the Hertz location where you're headed for rates-and availability.
That should help you with your fall/winter vacation planning, along with knowing these Hertz airport locations will rent you a ZHZ from the Fun Collection (as long as you're age 25 and older): Phoenix; Los Angeles (LAX), San Diego and San Francisco; Denver; Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Fort Myers, Miami, Orlando, Palm Beach and Tampa; Savannah, Georgia; Maui and Oahu, Hawaii; Boston; Newark; Charlotte; Portland, Oregon; Charleston, South Carolina; Nashville; Dallas (DFW) and Houston (Bush Intercontinental); Seattle, WA; and Washington, DC (Dulles).
Those 850 Corvette ZHZs also bring up this question: When they're retired from rental service, will events like Bloomington Gold that have Survivor judging have special criteria for these former Hertz cars-like "rental car patina"?
