<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?><rss version="2.0"><channel><title>Corvette Fever Magazine Forums</title><link>http://forums.corvettefever.com</link><description>Join the European &amp; Import Car Forum at Corvette Fever Magazine to discuss your car, the latest Corvette Fevers on the market, shows &amp; events, modifications, and more.</description><item><link>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7992858/c3-corvettes/brand-new-rear-end-binding-up/index.html</link><pubDate>Wed, 18 Nov 2009 20:11:36 -0800</pubDate><category><![CDATA[C3 Corvettes]]></category><description><![CDATA[<dt><b>brand new rear end binding up</b><br />i take it that you have the car up in the air still... is it possible that the disc brakes or the parking brake is binding at that same point??? is it binding on one rotation of the front yoke or one rotation of the tires???? if one rotation of the tires... find the tight spot.. center the tight spot. mark that spot with masking tape on the side wall of the tire... turn the tire half a turn... grab the pinion yoke.. wiggle it slightly... can you feel the tiny bit of play between the pinion gear teeth and the ring gear teeth... there is always a tiny *** then rotate the tight spot back in.. see if the play vanishes... that would indicate the differential is bent.. this is totally possible with a big block car.. the gear got loaded so much the angle bent the case.. if you still have the same amount of play in the pinion to ring gear when the rear end is in the tight spot.. i would look at the brake rotors or parking brake wear surfaces.. perhaps there is a little bit of run out when the rotors got riveted back on to the flanges.. now.. if there are 3 or 4 tight spots during one rotation of the tire.. the pinion is bent.....<br /><br /><div><a href="http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7992858/c3-corvettes/brand-new-rear-end-binding-up/index.html">Read More</a> |

It has not been started since 1992. I have started the car and it is running good (tune up-fresh lubes). When the engine started the smog pump air control valve hose to the air cleaner cracked. I have search the internet and can not find the part, does anyone know where to find one? Thank you for your help. 				<a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=2&url=http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7912717/c3-corvettes/can-not-find-part/index.html&title=can not find part">Add to del.icio.us</a></div></dt>]]></description><title><![CDATA[can not find part]]></title><guid>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7912717/c3-corvettes/can-not-find-part</guid></item><item><link>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7989609/c3-corvettes/tachometer/index.html</link><pubDate>Tue, 17 Nov 2009 03:11:41 -0800</pubDate><category><![CDATA[C3 Corvettes]]></category><description><![CDATA[<dt><b>tachometer</b><br />take off the distributer cap and the rotor.. take a bright flash light and look at the pickup coil... i bet that the magnet is broken or cracked. take a look at the pick up coils online someplace like autozone.com . the pickup coil part number is a DR106 you can see the 3 screws that hold it together and in alignment do not loosen the screws... if you do the pieces will shift and you will not be able to start the motor... just take a look at the layer under the top... it is a ceramic magnet.. and i have found them cracked and loose... when the distributer shaft spins.. the toothed piece is called the reluctor.. the pick up coil has several layers.. the top piece is the pole piece.. the next is the ceramic magnet.. under it all is the pick up coil windings.. when the shaft spins.. the tips passing each other create a tiny alternating current.. a nice seine wave... if you spin the shaft with a digital volt meter set to 20 volts AC scale.. you need to get over 1 volt AC or it will not trigger the ignition module... i think that do to the broken magnet.. you are sending two trigger pulses to the module.. perhaps more... and this is doubling the RPM reading on your tach... this has happened to the later small cap, remote coil, Hei units used on later motors.. it really effects drivability on the later models do to the electronic spark timing.. but thats for another day and another thread.. putting a new pick up coil in the distributer is easy if you know how to get the distributer out and put it back in.... ask for instructions... if you plan on changing the pick up coil .. i may type them in later...<br /><br /><div><a href="http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7989609/c3-corvettes/tachometer/index.html">Read More</a> |

The car came to me not running. When it quit lady said all it would do is start & die. We have replaced everything but the steering wheel & believe the Vehicle Anti Theft is the culprit. We sent the chip in the computer to Street & Performance for a diagnostic check & they really don't know if it is good or not. The car will start & die. It will not even crank over untill we conect our scanner & bypass the VAT. Once we do it will crank over , start & loose injector pulse. Do you know of anyone that can test this thing properly, know where to buy a new one or have a solution for us. Is there a how to install sheet available? If I lower the front 1 to 1 and a half inches is it nessasarry to have the front end re aligned? I have read and heard of several people doing this but never anyone saying the front end had to be aligned once lowered? I am a new first owner of a vette and need some advice from someone who has installed these or am I better off just leaving the car alone? 				<a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=2&url=http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7965060/forum-issues/digital-dash-shuts-off-hard-brake-pedal/index.html&title=digital dash shuts off / hard brake pedal">Add to del.icio.us</a></div></dt>]]></description><title><![CDATA[digital dash shuts off / hard brake pedal]]></title><guid>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7965060/forum-issues/digital-dash-shuts-off-hard-brake-pedal</guid></item><item><link>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7963857/c3-corvettes/c3-front-hub-truing-for-flat-runout-free-brake-rotor-installation/index.html</link><pubDate>Sun, 01 Nov 2009 15:11:57 -0800</pubDate><category><![CDATA[C3 Corvettes]]></category><description><![CDATA[<dt><b>C3 front hub truing for flat, runout free brake rotor installation...</b><br />i thought i would share this.... i saw in this article... http://www.corvettefever.com/techarticles/corp_0604_chevrolet_corvette_c3_brake_upgrade that the hubs get bent when lug nuts are over tightened.. wheel studs also stretch when the lug nuts get over tightened.. if you seem to have run out on the face of the hub ... it is possible.... with an intelligent brake lathe operator.. to remove the high spots without effecting the rotor mounting distance from the caliper... remove the rotors.. the hubs... the studs really need to be pressed out.. with proper tooling.. i usually tap them out with a 2 or 3 pound hammer while the hub is still mounted... since i usually put new bearings and races in ... i then take the hub to the brake drum and rotor lathe... spin it up and just remove the high spots... just barely enough to clean up the face.. when installing new studs... instead of pressing them in.. i use a stack of hardened flat washers.. with a greased lug nut turned flat side in.. to pull the stud into place.. i normally keep some half inch , nine sixteenths and five eighth hardened flat washers in my tool box to pull new studs into the hub.. i just thought i would share... and please... when doing a brake job.. with removable bearings.. if you don't know how long ago.. the bearings were last cleaned and packed.. do it if you have the time... and the ability.. doing it takes about half an hour with all the cleaning you need to do per side when you have it torn down and the rotor off.. if your dust cap got damaged when you removed it.. you and put it over the head of your hammer.. and tap it slightly with another smaller hammer to make it round again.. so it fits tight.. and keeps the dirt and any water out... i also tend to seal the dust cap to the hub with a small bead of high temp silicone.. that way i know its sealed... and i was the last one to do it... creative mechanics put mileage in silicone when the bearings were packed on the dust cap... like 53K for 53,000 miles..<br /><br /><div><a href="http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7963857/c3-corvettes/c3-front-hub-truing-for-flat-runout-free-brake-rotor-installation/index.html">Read More</a> |

				<a href="http://del.icio.us/post?url=2&url=http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7960296/c1-corvettes/62-inner-fender-well/index.html&title=62' Inner Fender Well">Add to del.icio.us</a></div></dt>]]></description><title><![CDATA[62' Inner Fender Well]]></title><guid>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7960296/c1-corvettes/62-inner-fender-well</guid></item><item><link>http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7918655/c3-corvettes/clickety-noise/index.html</link><pubDate>Thu, 29 Oct 2009 15:10:21 -0700</pubDate><category><![CDATA[C3 Corvettes]]></category><description><![CDATA[<dt><b>Clickety noise</b><br />i would first jack up the right front..... spin the wheel with it up in the air... see if you can hear any clicking... then grab the wheel and try to turn it back and forth.. see if there is any movement.. if there is see where its from... see if there is any in, out movement at the top/bottom of the wheel... you can now remove the wheel.... examine the brake caliper... make sure the caliper pin is properly installed... wiggle the brake pads... make sure they are not rattling around inside the caliper.. put a pair of lug nuts back on to hold the rotor to the hub... if its not fastened tight.. wiggle the rotor.. see if there is any play.. spin the rotor.. see if you hear anything rumbling.. the wheel bearings should be totally silent.. if you can hear them... or can feel them when you turn it.. they are probably going bad and will need to be replaced... don't forget... you have to clean all the grease out.. and drive the races out a bit at a time.. then drive the new races in.. please read up on this... if you are not familiar with doing it.. it really does sound like the bearings are failing.. or have failed.. if the bearings have spun on the spindle.. you may have to have it examined by a professional... or you may have to change the spindle... and possibly the hub also.. there is a small chance... that those front wheel bearings have not be properly cleaned and packed with fresh proper grease since it rolled off the factory line...<br /><br /><div><a href="http://forums.corvettefever.com/70/7918655/c3-corvettes/clickety-noise/index.html">Read More</a> |
