Got a chance to get what I think is a decent deal on an 88 coupe. It ran but the flywheel/ torue converter flex plate the starter engages was deformed. Owner drove it on and off trailer and no noise. Cut it off and came back to put it in the shop and when it cranked it knocked/hammered like crazy. He's put a new flex plate on it but now bad gas is keeping it from running. Its the original engine/tran with 130000 miles on it. Body has some spots that were touched up and wet sanded but will have to be repainted to look right. Tires are almost new and interior is okay but would recover if i got it and kept it. Considering doing the swap in with a 5.3L FI that is mentioned elswhere here. Anyone done that and got any pointers. My last project was putting a built up 260HP 4.3l GM truck engine and SM465 4spd in an 88 Jeep YJ Anyone got a feel for what a decent price to offer would be for this 88 corvette. lets take a look at the trouble codes first.. P0327 - Knock Sensor Circuit Low Voltage P0327 - GM Description Knock Sensor Circuit Conditions Cause No CKP, ECT, MAF, TP or VSS codes set, system voltage 10-18v, engine speed 1000-5000 rpm, ECT input more than 153°F, throttle position from 10-15%, engine load over 45%, maximum spark retard less than 15°, and the PCM detected a Knock sensor signal that was within a calculated average voltage range for 10 seconds you may have not gotten a ECT engine coolant temp sensor code.. but you did get an Engine OIL Temp code. that MAY cause the computer to remove power to protect the engine.. . P1188 - EOT Sensor Circuit High Voltage Type Powertrain Description Engine Oil Temperature Sensor High Input Conditions Cause No PCM codes set, engine running 30 minutes, then the PCM detected an EOT sensor input of less than -23°F for 4.5 seconds guess what... you probably don't need a throttle module parts.. its hard to tell from this far away.. but if these codes are set... your car will do exactly as you describe .. won't go faster than a snail... do you own a scan tool??? do you want to fix this your self.. you might first try replacing the offending sensors.. the oil temp sensor. http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/wl2/SU112/image/4/ this is the detonation sensor.. these may not be the ones for your car.. yours may be much smaller and there may be two http://contentinfo.autozone.com/znetcs/product-info/en/US/wl2/SU1098/image/4/ without a scan tool... and you might be able to use the onboard system to read the data stream.. as is done on caddys.. try pushing the OFF and Warmer buttons at the same time on the heater control panel with the key on.. hold both for 5 or 6 seconds.. when all the lights on the dash board come on.. let go.. most of my work is on earlier C4 models.. not the C5s.. but i understand how the systems think.. more to come...

ok... backwards... hmm.. let me ask a few questions... engine off.. check the transmission level..... note how far above the full level it is on the dip stick... start the engine... does the fluid level drop ANY on the dip stick.. this will show if the pump is starting to work. the transmission is operated by fluid... with the engine running how much fluid in on the dip stick in park... did you properly adjust the throttle valve cable at the throttle body?? this is the cable that runs over and down to the transmission passenger side.. if the cable is misadjusted.. the transmission may NOT even last one trip down the block.. when the torque converter falls off the input shaft/front pump.. it has to be supported by holding the pilot hub on the center of the front and spun while lightly pushing it inward to allow the splines to engage.. then the front pump has to engage on the flats of the torque converter hub.. if its forced in.. you WILL break the front pump... there are a BUNCH of articles spread out in the magazines on these transmissions.. they also require several hundred dollars in special tools to assemble them properly if you have to take it apart.. the nylon seals on the input shaft are one thing.. so... lets check to see if when you start the engine.. if the fluid level on the dipstick drops... next.. where is the fluid level on the dipstick with the engine running.....

there are articles in the tech section.. and tons of articles that can be found in the search window above.. i did not want this post sitting unanswered.. there are SO many ways to go... do you get both the corvette fever and the vette magazine from this site??? in print?? it takes a lot of money to make your corvette C5 run as fast as john forces funny cars... ahh!!! but your C5 will corner a lot faster than johns cars will.. perhaps somebody will lend a hand.. or at least a few fingers to help.. why not start with the search window above right.. type in C5.. changing to a lower temp thermostat does NOT increase horsepower.. it can cause the engine to overheat at the thermostat is now opening 17F or 37F cooler than the engine expects it to... the ECM/PCM will see the lower temp and try to increase the temp by keeping the engine at a faster idle and enriching the fuel mixture.. reducing the fuel economy.. causing the cat to run hotter than spec.. and people will sell you stuff to correct the problem you caused by the swap in thermostat operating temp... oh.. the thermostat will be wide open when the cooling fans finally come on.. and will never close throwing off the thermal stability of the engine and cooling system..

:confused: My battery keeps running down to 11 volts if I don't start or drive it for 4 or 5 days. I have bought a new alternator (not rebuilt) and new battery.I have had them both tested to see if they might be faulty and no problems were found. I have tested for broken wire touching the frame and no problem found. Does anyone have an idea. THANKS

Ok ... Here We Go Again !,Since My Last Post I Have Replaced The Ignition Switch, The Neutral Safety Switch Bought A New Battery And Replaced The Blower Motor Resistor Which I Knew Was Bad As Well As The Battery.The Voltage To The Solenoid From The Ignition Was About 2 Volts By My Meter With The Key Turned On. I Have Also Tried Hot Wiring By Crossing The Terminals At The Starter And It Cranks Like A Champ But Will Not Start With The Key In The On Position. I Would Have Thought For Sure It Would Have Started By Now But Will Not. I Have No Idea Where To Go From Here, Can't Help But Think It Is The Security System, But It Was Running Fine,And Then Nothing, No Warning , Nothing.Could It Be A Starter Interrupt Relay ?, And If So Does Anybody Know Where And What It Looks Like,Or What It Is ? 2 More Weeks Of This And I Might Be Parting Her Out For Scrap,Been On This Now For A SOLID 2 MONTHS, Have Checked , Double Checked And In Some Cases Triple Checked All That I Know Or Was Able To Find Out. Well much to my surprise I think I got it going. I decided to tinker with it on my hour lunch break. Pulled out the fuel pump in the connected it straight to power at the pig tail and it did nothing. Connected how are directly to the pump terminals and what do you know it worked. When they replace the pump on that sending unit hey did not do a very good ground. So I re grounded it to the sending unit and it fired right up. Runs like crap because the gas is 6 + months old but hopefully some new high octane gas will get rid of that. And I noticed after cleaning of the dash of that it is working but the lights don't come on so it is very hard to see. Also the car seems to be putting out a mixture between black and grey smoke. Could this probably be because it hasn't ran in a year?

My 1994 coupe has a driver side rear speaker that squeals. I've got a new JVC system installed. The squealing was there before the new system was installed. I checked the speaker by switching it with the passenger side. The good speaker makes the squealing sound when connected. Is this a ground problem? How do I trace and repair the problem? Car was shutting down while driving. I had the battery replaced and alternator. worked for about six months now having the same issue. If I want to start the car I have to jump it every time. any suggestions?

depends on who you are going to sell it to... and if the person you intend on selling it to needs to smog the car.. i wonder if the renegade has an E.O. approval for california.. just swapping in a 383 and a cam really wakes them up.. police spec 350 TBI injectors might be swapped in.. or even one of the 2 flow rates of the 454 TBI injectors ... to supply more fuel when in open loop during hard acceleration .. you might also look at the 700R4.. if its ever been rebuilt .. if so. was it a stock rebuild.. or properly beefed up to withstand the abuse a larger motor.. there are lots of options there to make them live..

I have a 1987 Corvette that has a leaking power rack and pinion. I need to purchase a rebuilt one however my car has no part id stickers on it to know if I have the heavy duty, sport or regular rack. The parts store need this info to get the right one. If the sport unit will fit I have no problem ordering it if it bolts up the same and the lines are the same. However I don't want to go through a lot of changing to make it work if it won't interchange with the regular unit if that is what I have. Any help would be appreciated and if someone knows a good place to purchase one, as in cheapest but works fine, please let me know. Gary

http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb476/waynep712/84vettecrossfireenginelocations.gif ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ this covers many of the cross fire models. http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb476/waynep712/84crosfirevacuumcal.gif ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb476/waynep712/84crossfirewiring.jpg ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ the ECM ground wires are hooked up to the motor on the EGR control solenoid bracket usually.. its on the passenger side of the motor between the front throttle body and the EGR valve.. http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb476/waynep712/crossfirediagram.jpg in addition.. do you have a timing light..???? can you hook it up to one of the spark plug wires.. any of them.. hook up the power clips .. tape the trigger on.. place the timing light on the windshield.. take the car for a test drive.. see if the timing light flickers instead of pulses constantly when the engine stumbles... this will tell you if the ignition is failing.. .. if the light continues flashing properly.. then looking at the fuel injection system.. on most of the cross fire motors that i work on.. i end up replacing the distributer pick up coil.. the capacitor harness. the ignition coil .. put fresh dielectric tune up compound under the module. using extreme care with the 4 wire harness to the ECM from the distributer as those are almost impossible to find..
