The simple Tar Topper kit...
The simple Tar Topper kit includes a "top" and a three-section side panel. The remaining exposed side is unseen in most applications.
For those who have vintage Corvettes where a Tar Topper battery would have been original, the expense and hassle of these often less-than-reliable batteries have resulted in the use of a modern Group 24 or dry-cell battery like GNB Products' Optima(r) battery.
Unfortunately, the modern-day battery doesn't quite fit the look of a vintage Corvette. Luckily, for those of you who want a more original-appearance engine compartment but are unwilling to give up the reliability of a modern battery, the Tar Topper is for you.
The Tar Topper is a vintage appearance package for concealing your modern battery. The kit, while simple, is also ingenious. The polymer replica of the "top" has painted "fill" caps and is provided with a three-section side-panel kit. Engineered to fit top-post, deep-cycle, and the Ford version of Optima's spiral-cell battery, this low-cost concealing kit won't fool any judges at your next Corvette event, but it will hide the red top of your reliable high-performance battery.
