It all starts with the Edelbrock Victor high-performance water pump. The studs on the left are special and critical in length. If the wrong studs are in place, the A/C compressor bracket can be cracked. Since the studs are discontinued from GM, it's best to find a complete assembly. Another critical area is where the heater hose return fitting threads into the water pump. Over-tightening this area can crack the mounting boss, and you'll think the lower radiator hose is leaking.

Installing Edelbrock Water Pump Power Steering Pump
This is the power steering pump we spoke of earlier. It's used on everything from '84-'05, so parts aren't a problem. The pump must be mounted to the bracket before installing the pulley. If you are using a rebuilt pump to replace the donor pump, be sure it's reverse rotation or there will be no power steering assist. The fitting nut on the right side for the pressure hose has lines cut in the flats denoting it's metric.

Installing Edelbrock Water Pump Ps Pulley
You will need a special tool to remove or install the P/S pulley. It's easier to install the P/S pump as an assembly with the pulley and bracket than to try to install the pulley later. Apply a light coat of engine oil on the P/S pump shaft to ease pulley installation. P/S pulley installers can be rented from most auto parts stores for a reasonable fee.

Here's the pump installed and ready for the A.I.R. pump eliminator plate and idler pulley. Watch the bolt length in the aluminum heads! The bolt should only protrude three-fourths of an inch to one-inch maximum. Leave all the bolts loose until every bolt has been started and screwed in three to four threads to prevent stripped threads.

Installing Edelbrock Water Pump Eliminator Plate
This is the A.I.R. eliminator plate and spacers we mocked up for installation. The plate needs to be drilled to the proper bolt hole sizes, and then smoothed for installation. We had a local machine shop cut recesses where the spacers sit to ease installation. The plate is .125 aluminum plate cut on our bandsaw.

Installing Edelbrock Water Pump Eliminator Plate
Here the eliminator plate is installed and painted with the idler and brace in place. The brace from the idler to intake manifold is very important for harmonic vibration control. Rotating components all have harmonic vibrations that need to be absorbed, and the brace grounds the vibration to the engine.

Installing Edelbrock Water Pump Installed Left Of Engine
All the components are installed on the left side of the engine. Our eliminator bracket was a custom fit for the MSD alternator. The water-pump pulley bolts directly to the water pump and could support an engine-driven fan if you don't want to use an electric fan. The engine-driven fan blade would need to be from a reverse-rotation application though.

Installing Edelbrock Water Pump Pesky Braces
This is another one of those pesky braces to install on the exhaust header to absorb harmonics. GM originally used these braces, and they should all be used or accessory brackets may eventually crack or, worse yet, break completely. We used 31/48-inch spacer stock to obtain the correct spacing from the header. The OE exhaust manifolds don't require spacers.
