Mr. Clean's front-end rework included removal of grease, grime, and who knows what else; painting and installation of new ball joints, tie-rod ends, bushings, and shock absorbers. Cleanliness doesn't do much for performance, but it makes a tremendous improvement in appearance, and also eases repair and modification work.

The control arms in as-delivered condition had Mr. Clean mumbling to himself. Besides that, the ball joints had a bit of wobble to them, and two of the rubber boots were torn, allowing grease to escape and terrorize the control-arm surfaces .and Mr. Clean.

New outer tie-rod ends are typically supplied with loose hardware. The nut, washer, cotter pin, and boot are hard to miss, but a surprising number of people don't realize that a grease fitting is also included and must be installed.

C4 front suspensions are somewhat unique in that they have both inner and outer tie-rod ends. If replacement of the outer ends doesn't eliminate a high speed wobble, the inners may need to be changed.
