A quick-disconnect switch can't prevent battery self-discharge, but it will stop any unwanted discharge from the car's electrical system. The switch also provides a deterrent to lazy thieves, but it's not generally suitable for C4 and later Corvettes that need the battery connected to maintain computers and presets.
