On the national level, the 1962 NHRA A/SP record holder was Don Gist of Lake Worth, Florida. He professed to be a neighbor of GM's Harley Earl! Gist ran the first-ever set of Stahl "Total Tuned" headers and went as quick as 11.98 seconds at Half Moon Bay, California. Today, Don is--or was--in the jewelry business somewhere in Tennessee.
